Dr Li became a lecturer in Physics at Manchester, after completing his EPSRC advanced fellow from 7/1994-7/1999). He specialises in neutron scattering and related technology. His recent work has been mainly concerned with hydrogen bonding in water (from Ice to the supercritical state), clathrate hydrates, water in C60/C nanotubes and in biomaterials). This area of work is highly interdisciplinary, requiring both experimental work using inelastic, quasi-elastic and neutron Compton scattering and theoretical modeling of hydrogen bonding using lattice dynamics (LD), molecular dynamics (MD) and ab initio quantum mechanical methods. He has collaborated with scientists from a wide range of disciplines. He is co-author of ~100 publications. He has given many invited lectures and seminars on water structuring and inelastic neutron scattering. He is a member of several committees related to neutron scattering in UK and abroad.
