Build laser desorption source for nucleosides and nucleotides time-resolved study
Design new laser desorption source combined with supersonic expansion.
Setup and optimize expansion condition for nucleosides and nucleotides complexes.
Perform spectroscopic studies on the mass selected iodide-nucleoside clusters.
Femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron imaging of small biological molecules
Prepare small biological complex using thermal desorption. 
Obtain the time-resolved photoelectron imaging of biological complex at using different excitation energies.
Propose dynamic models to interpret the observed imaging data and the decay process.

Boron clusters: building the foundation of novel boron nanostructures
Prepare the boron target and generate boron clusters using laser vaporization and supersonic expansion.
Control the cluster size and temperature by varying the laser trigger time, carrier gases and shape of home-designed and home-built nozzles.
Select the desired boron clusters by time of flight mass spectrometry.
Design and setup the laser light path used to characterize the clusters.
Obtain the photoelectron spectra using lasers running in the UV and visible regions. 
Perform quantum calculations to determine the cluster structure, interpret the spectrum and to understand the electronic properties of the boron clusters.
Doped boride clusters: study of novel molecular structures and chemical bonding
Upgrade a home-made data acquisition electronic system to a National Instruments PXI platform and Labview controlled.
Generate and discover the transition-metal centered molecular wheels, highlighted by the international journal: Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., C&EN.
Explore the application of these clusters as novel ligands in designing novel nanostructures.
Synthesize BnH2/0 molecular wires and substitute H by Au in an effort to produce and study conducting nanowires.
Electronic Structure of Gaseous Actinide Molecules and Clusters 
Produce and characterize UFxand UOx (x = 1, 2, 3 …) to investigate geometric and electronic structures.
Observe strong correlations between the 7s electrons.
Establish strong communication with collaborators working on quantum calculations. 
Supervise and train new graduate students the mass and photoelectron spectroscopic data acquisition, lab maintenance and theoretical approaches for data analysis.

Movement of Nanofilm driven by Smart Polymer
Synthesize the PS nanofilm using spin-coating. Use photolithography to generate active spots for grafting pH sensitive polymers to the nanofilm. 
Measure the bare film surface with AFM and test the film movement in solution.
